There are different ways to obtain the residence for social roots without the need to have an employment contract, below we are going to explain three ways.

One way is to have enough money in the bank of the country of origin, or in a bank in Spain, for personal maintenance in Spanish territory for one year.

This maintenance is measured through the IPREM (Indicador Público de Renta de Efectos Múltiples) multiplied by twelve months, which currently would be 580 euros multiplied by twelve months, which works out to be about 6,960 euros for a whole year.

 In this way, we can obtain a residence permit for social roots without any work contract, thanks to having enough to support ourselves economically in Spanish territory for a year.

Another way is to create a small business project to set up as a self-employed person, which is an interesting option because social security costs very little during the first years and there are usually subsidies from public bodies.

After being with this business project for the first year, we have the option of working both as a self-employed person and as an employee, and it is not necessary to apply for a permit to work in one way or another, once we have been with this business project for a year.

Therefore, without having large financial means, we can create a small business project, thanks to the fact that, with the new immigration regulations, we do not need a large amount of money and we do not need to hire staff, so a self-employed project is very easy to carry out.

A third way is to take a training course, which allows us to have residence in Spain for one year and before the end of the year of residence we will finish the training course, and once we have finished that training course and before the end of the year of residence, we can continue along two paths.

One way is to create a small self-employed business project as we have explained before and another way is to get a contract with a company which, thanks to the new law on foreigners, does not need to be full or part-time, it can be a temporary contract.
